The Royal & McPherson Theatres Society (RMTS) is looking for a

Communication and Administration Specialist for an eight-month parental leave.

The Royal and McPherson Theatres Society acknowledges that the Royal Theatre and McPherson Playhouse are located on the ancestral, traditional and unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples, known today as the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ Nations.

For over four decades, the Royal and McPherson Theatres Society (RMTS) has managed the Royal Theatre and the
McPherson Playhouse on behalf of their civic owners and, by extension, the region’s citizens, visitors, and community, providing service to over 200,000 patrons annually.

The RMTS is comprised of a team of experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated arts professionals who manage all aspects of the theatres.

About the Position

Reporting to the Manager of Client Services, the Communication and Administration Specialist works as a collaborative member of the RMTS administration team to ensure strong administration, organizational communications, brand awareness and engagement.

This position works 25 to 35 hours per week. The hourly wage is $30.00 to $33.00 per hour, based on experience, with vacation time provided and 4% in lieu of benefits.

Required Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of three years working in a communications, public relations, and administration role, preferably for an arts organization.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a strong collaborative team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and a supportive, team-based approach towards the attainment of the RMTS’s short-and long- term goals.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Strong computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as Canva and other social media platforms.
  • Active commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA)

Responsibilities

  • Executive public relations programs.
  • Serve as the key contact for media enquiries.
  • Develop and maintain positive community relationships.
  • Develop and manage key media relationships and serve as a proactive media liaison.
  • Write and disseminate media kits and media releases.
  • Writing and editing communications including speaking notes, organizational reports, and presentations.
  • Participate in social media content creation, engagement, and monitoring.
  • Perform a variety of general administrative functions as required and other tasks as assigned.
