We are currently seeking an Interim Finance Director to work a full-time contract term of 14-18 months in our Victoria office. We have a hybrid work model, following an in-person on-boarding.

What we need from you in this hands-on role are:

Core Requirements:

  • A CPA, Strong CPA candidate, or a post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or business
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, accounting principles, and BC Finance
  • Solid work ethic and sense of responsibility
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to quickly establish trusted relationships throughout the organization building strong cohesion with Management and Executive teams
  • Escalate any financial concerns to the Management and Executive teams
  • Ability work effectively in a team environment and independently
  • Excellent administrative skills
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions for various duties and learn new applications as required
  • Experience prioritizing and completing assignments to meet deadlines
  • Participation in weekly Executive meetings, provide financial updates where necessary, and ensure clarity around team priorities and goals
  • Reliability and discretion due to the sensitive nature of the position

Team Leadership:

Experience leading and mentoring a finance team

Supervision of finance team through timesheet approvals, overtime requests and moderating weekly finance team meetings

Guide, manage and support the finance team, including providing cross functional coverage when other team members are on vacation

Ability to evaluate, coach, develop and monitor finance team performance by facilitating annual performance reviews

Collaboration with external accountants to finalize annual financial statements

  • Communication with tax authorities regarding any queries or addressing audits

Accounting Capabilities:

A high degree of accuracy is required across all functional competencies including but not limited to:

Statutory file returns (GST, PST, RST, EPRA WCB BC & NS, etc.) on a timely basis

Supervision and detailed review of all bookkeeping functions and all payroll functions

  • Quarterly and annual preparation of financial statements

Activities for fiscal year-end and accounting for applicable year-end adjustments

Payroll process validation e.g., reviewing data entries and benefits calculations

Calendar year-end payroll close to produce T4s for employees and T4As for subcontractors

Provide financial reports such as cashflow, invoice tracking, and financial information as requested by other departments and management

Proficiency in Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook

You’ll score extra points if you have:

  • Completion of CPA
  • Xero, Quickbooks Premier, invoicing, accounts receivable, subcontracts and contract tracking experience
  • Familiarity with the IT industry
  • Experience using ConnectWise Manage
