The role of the Distribution & Logistics Support ("D&LS") is to ensure that The Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society is operating under its mandate to "Feed People". Reporting directly to the Distribution & Logistics Supervisor, the D&LS is responsible for supporting all food based systems within the organization. The D&LS will directly assist in the ordering, receiving, pick-up and distribution and preparation of all food products, keep our pantries, freezers and receiving areas clean and orderly as well as help to ensure our offerings and assistance meets the needs of our guests and community partners. Work is performed on-site Monday-Friday 9:30am-1:30pm.

Supervision & Direct Report to: Distribution & Logistics Supervisor

Job Type: Permanent, part-time (maximum 16 hours/week)

Supervise others: Volunteers, Guests. (Working alongside our Delivery Driver)

Wages: $20.20/hour

Vacation: does not accrue, paid out each pay cycle to the equivalent of 2 weeks vacation (or 4%).

Phone Reimbursement: $20/month

Primary Duties:

  • Leading in the receiving and sorting of all Food to Rainbow Kitchen.
  • Accurate tracking of all inventory (recording of incoming and outgoing items on appropriate forms).
  • Allocation and management of food to RK Guests as well as established Food Sharing Program partners.
  • Managing proper food rotating (FIFO method).
  • Maintaining the cleanliness, organization and maintenance (defrosting, etc.) of all fridges, freezers and pantries.
  • Managing the physical order and cleanliness of the Receiving Bay and ensure it is always left in a safe and organized state.
  • Maintaining the organziation of all Garbage, Compost and Recycling Receptacles.
  • Assist with managing Special Event Menus & Donations (Thanksgiving, Christmas, ‘Day of thanks’, Food Drives etc.) both in the preparation and at events when required.
  • Assist in the leadership of Volunteers when necessary.
  • Offering kind and safety-focused training of Volunteers.
  • Matching Volunteer abilities with appropriate tasks.
  • Always following up with Volunteers and providing feedback when necessary.
  • Assist with administrative tasks ie; email, voicemails, ordering, tracking document completion, basic computer skills and management when needed.
  • Person on call (last resort) for driving our delivery van to collect or drop off in-kind donations.
  • Maintaining a clean driving record and class 5 Driver's License.
  • Any other duty deemed as necessary for the operations of the organization, from time to time.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Passion for providing a warm and caring environment for both our Volunteers and Guests.
  • Recitable knowledge of current food safe standards (training provided).
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, and make timely decisions as required.
  • Sense of humour.
  • Highest level of organizational and attention to detail in tight work spaces.
  • Highest level of cleanliness standards in all food storage and work spaces.
  • Ability to delegate, and maintain prioritization of tasks on specific schedules.
  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities.
  • Appropriate use of tact and diplomacy when dealing with Volunteers and Guests.
  • Communicates respectfully, at all times with everyone at Rainbow Kitchen.
  • Possess excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to support and encourage others in their work .
  • Ability to maintain healthy relationships and communication with food donors.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs. unassisted, repeatedly without issue.
  • Ability to work outside in the exposed weather appropriately.
  • Assisting in other Kitchen duties (washing dishes, helping breakdown meals and mealtime services, or set up for evening rentals, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to embrace the Mission Statement of Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society
  • Class 5 driver's license FoodSafe Certificate Level 1 WHMIS Certification
  • First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Conflict resolution training an asset
  • Previous experience in the hospitality or food service industry an asset.
