Commitment: 35 hrs per week approx, for 8 weeks. Hybrid of remote and in person required. (For July 1 to 8, hours will be in person and longer hours)

Compensation $24/hr

Purpose: The Victoria Pride Society is seeking an exceptional Communication Coordinator to work as part of the Victoria Pride Society Communications team. Candidates must be eligible to work through the Canada summer jobs program (ages 15-30, and legally able to work in Canada). The successful candidate will report to the Communications Manager while being a part of a collaborative team of volunteers and contractors that is driven to deliver memorable and inclusive 2SLGBTQIA+ events to the community in Greater Victoria.

Responsibilities:The Communications Coordinator will work with Pride staff and volunteers to assist in the delivery of successful communications about Victoria Pride Festival events, including:

  • provide coordination support as required with the communications committee.
  • work with the communication committee to research information, follow up on deadlines, respond to request, and other duties to support the team.
  • Act as a liaison between the communication committee and event leads to ensure information is correct
  • Fact check social media copy and web copy for accuracy
  • communicate with event participants, sponsors, partners and contractors to keep them informed.
  • perform a variety of general administrative functions, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Be eligible under Canada Summer Jobs guidelines:.
  • Applicants MUST be between 18 - 30 years old, and be Permanent Residents or Canadian Citizens.

Skills and Experience: The successful candidate should possess a diverse skill set that includes:

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking skills.
  • Experience writing and editing communications products for a variety of channel.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Preference may be given for:

  • Experience with social media management or communications experience.
  • Experience working for positive change within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities or equity deserving communities.
  • Applicants who are 2SLGBTQAI+.
  • Applicants who are Indigenous, Black and/or otherwise racialized.
  • Applicants with a disability.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Applicants must be 15–30 years of age and a permanent Canadian resident, citizen, or refugee. This position will be full time, for eight weeks, starting in mid-May until mid-July 2023
