JOB SUMMARY
The Manager plans, administers, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of the BGCA’s thrift store, Burnside Boutique. Working with a team of volunteers the Manager will: ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; process, display, and price donated items to ensure a reasonable financial return on the sale of store items; assist customers in a polite and friendly manner; prepare store displays that are attractive, neat, and orderly; rotate and re-stock store merchandise to ensure quick turnover; ensure the accountability and security of all store items and funds. Responsible for cash, closeout and accounting integrity. Trains and supervises store volunteers.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Handle all aspects of retail operational and merchandising management issues, from the delivery of stock to the store to the final sale of the product to the customer.
● Daily management of the Thrift Store and volunteers.
● Be confident in the ability to manage a team of 15+ individuals.
● Provide an atmosphere of dignity and respect for customers, clients, and all volunteers.
● Maintain loss prevention policies and procedures, minimizing theft and ensuring safety.
● Daily supervision, orientation and continuous training of store volunteers.
● Resolve volunteer-related disputes and issues in conjunction with BGCA’s Communications and Development Coordinator.
● Promote and procure quality donations from businesses and individuals.
● Ensure that merchandise is flowing to the sales floor quickly while making sure that proper identification of value and marking is being accomplished.
● Maintain an outstanding level of store cleanliness and presentation.
● Conduct regular store meetings.
● Prepare and communicate volunteer work schedules.
● Communicate regularly and efficiently with the Communications and Development Coordinator.
● Assess where improvements can be made within the areas of responsibility.
● Meet all financial goals and other measured expectations of the store, including sales, expenses and other development goals.
● Ensure proper operation of the point of sale system, and cash handling, including preparation of all daily paperwork.
● Ensure that all deposits are made in a timely fashion and per policy.
● Directly supervise the receipt, sorting, valuation and marking of donations for sale. Maintain records accurately.
● Must be confident with cash handling.
● Work collaboratively with BGCA’s Office Manager
● Communicate, execute, and manage marketing in collaboration with BGCA’s Communications and Development Coordinator.
● Oversee advertising and community outreach for the store.
● Display and advertise current store sales and events.
● Organize seasonal sales and special store events.
● Utilize social media to promote and sell store merchandise.

● Ability to communicate and engage effectively with diverse customers, donors, staff and volunteers in an appropriate, respectful and patient manner is essential.
● Knowledge of the principles and practices of retail store management and the principles and practices of effective customer relations.
● Ability to work independently as well as work cooperatively with others.

● Demonstrated leadership skills
● Ability to learn new processes and adapt to changes in technology e.g.: new POS systems
● Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
● Computer skills using the Canva graphic design platform that provides tools for creating social media graphics, presentations, promotional merchandise and websites.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Minimum 3 years of recent retail management experience
● Experience training and supervising volunteers is required
● Experience providing quality customer service is required.
● Post-secondary education in business/retail is considered an asset
● Demonstrated experience building and motivating teams and the ability to improve productivity, engagement, and retention
● Experience in building positive and beneficial relationships with vendors, donors, and customers; building long-term connections and networks that assist with store productivity.
● Computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook and experience with point of sale registers is preferred.
● Class 5 driver's license or equivalent.
HOURS OF WORK & COMPENSATION
30 hours per week, Wednesday to Sunday
$24/hour. BGCA also offers a competitive extended health benefits package and an RRSP match program after 3 months
