Schedule

This position is on an on-call basis and hours will be called out within your specified availability. The hours will be called out as needed.

Wage:

Starting Wage is between $43.67 - $49.92 ( includes provincial wage subsidy ), includes shift differentials as applicable.

Job Summary:

The Berwick Community Nurse is a flexible, relief position in the Berwick BRIO Care units. The Berwick Community Nurse is available as needed to work at multiple sites and can pivot quickly to meet operational requirements. The Berwick Community Nurse will be assigned to a single site in response to a shift and will not have to switch sites during that shift. Under the supervision of the BRIO Care Manager, this position is directly responsible to provide care and assessment for the residents in the Licensed Residential Care Unit and for the emergency assessment of independent residents as required. The Berwick Community Nurse administers medications as per established guidelines, accurately records resident information and performs other clinical procedures as required within the LPN scope of practice, competency level, and the organization’s policies and procedures. The Berwick Community Nurse is aware of and conforms to all Licensing requirements of the Residential Care Regulations. Directs and supervises Resident Care Aides.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years experience working with seniors
  • An active full scope membership with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Valid WHMIS Certificate
  • Experience in the field of geriatrics and residential care
  • Available to commit to a minimum of 6 shifts per month (days, evenings and/or nights)
  • Must be flexible to work in both BRIO care units. Both sites are within a 10-minute drive of one another and are convenient within town.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Good clinical, communication and problem-solving skills, and an ability to work well with seniors, their families and the public
  • Sound assessment skills
  • Exceptional and accurate record keeping abilities, care plan administration and compliance with licensing regulations
  • Tact, sound judgment, confidentiality, patience, reliability, and ability to treat staff and residents with respect and dignity
  • Ability to work with staff as a team is essential
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understands verbal and written instructions
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with the various individuals involved in providing holistic care in a flexible resident focused environment
  • Must be in good health, physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand and walk as required to perform the duties of the position
