The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range:  $95,649- $105,476 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: $124,447 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary

Mandate:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Maintenance, the Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the organization's physical infrastructure. This includes overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring that buildings are in good condition, managing budgets, coordinating repairs and maintenance, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Oversee the maintenance of facilities building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. Responsible for structural components such as carpentry, lockshop, exterior and interior painting and sign shops.

Objectives:

  • Effective staff management - hiring and assessments, performance evaluations and determination of training and development needs and attendance management. 
  • Oversee a structured maintenance program to help avoid costly repairs, improve productivity and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and provide a safe and healthy environment for learning, research and work.
  • Maintenance and repair related project management and coordination - ensure programs, services and projects are on time and on budget.
  • Management of preventative maintenance programs and services.
  • Effective service administration – budget plans, data and information management, planning documents.
  • Ensuring facilities operate efficiently minimizing disruptions caused by breakdowns.
  • Required to respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours.
Job Requirements

This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to:

  • A bachelor degree in engineering or technology along with 3 years relevant experience in industrial and/or institutional building systems design, maintenance engineering and plant operations and a Facilities Management Certificate or recognized formal training and credentials (such as: APPA, IFMA,BOMI, PEMAC, or:
  • A post-secondary diploma in an engineering technologist discipline with 5 years relevant experience in industrial and/or institutional building systems design, maintenance engineering and plant operations preferable in the mechanical or electrical fields, and a Facilities Management Certificate or recognized formal training and credentials (such as: APPA, IFMA, BOMI, PEMAC) or: 
  • A Red Seal trades qualification) with 10 years relevant experience in industrial and/or institutional building systems, maintenance and/and or plant operations preferable in the mechanical or electrical fields and a Facilities Management Certificate or recognized formal training and credentials (such as: APPA, IFMA, BOMI, PEMAC)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Facilities Management such as CEFP, CFM, CMM, FMA, FMP, SFP
  • Applied Science Technologist in Electrical or Mechanical 
  • Red Seal certification in electrical, plumbing, carpentry or mechanical trade

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Minimum of 5 years of maintaining or managing a complex group of commercial / institutional building mechanical, plumbing, energy systems and controls
  • Minimum 3 years managing facility energy systems
  • Recent successful supervisory or management experience obtained in a unionized building trades organization
  • Building construction, practical understanding of working with building systems 
  • Delivering an effective building fabric maintenance program
  • Current electrical distribution low and high voltage systems, communications wiring, fire alarm and emergency generator systems
  • Effective use of standard office hardware and software including MS Office (excel, word, outlook) and database applications (computerized maintenance management systems)
  • Effective use of modern business administration processes including financial/budget administration and basic accounting procedures
