Job Description

As a member of the University's executive leadership team, the Vice-President, Finance and Operations (VPF&O) is jointly accountable for the strategic stewardship of Royal Roads University in line with its mandate.

The VPF&O supports RRU’s strategic direction through the planning, directing and overseeing of the administrative and financial functions of the university that enables growth and innovation, fosters a mind-set that continually looks to the horizon, understands and considers potential challenges and new opportunities while making plans and taking actions in the short run. 

The position reflexes a service, solutions and systems focus while partnering with other members of the Executive Team to evaluate new business opportunities and ensures the collaboration with and support of others in the pursuit of the academic mission and objectives of the university. 

The VPF&O is responsible for coordinating and managing the university’s operating and capital budgets, safeguarding and optimizing return on the university’s assets, ensuring management and control of its financial systems and risk programs, and providing oversight for the financial and technology and functions of the university, while working effectively with the Board of Governors.

Job Requirements

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with master’s degree in accounting, business, finance or related field or formal accounting designation such as CA, CGA, CMA or equivalent related experience and education.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience at a senior level as a member of a senior leadership team in both private and public sectors that has led within a diverse portfolio of functions that embrace service and solutions.
  • Experience in operational and strategic planning, policy development and financial analysis.
  • Significant experience in financial and capital planning, labour relations, information systems, and risk management of comparable complexity and magnitude
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully negotiating and managing contracts, relationships, and partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive and productive relationships and partnerships with community, indigenous partners, business, government and other institutions and organizations locally and nationally.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, senior executive and governing boards.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, conflict management, negotiating and oral/ written communication skills with a track record of effectiveness in a team setting.
  • Strategic and critical thinking abilities within a broadly accountable context whose objectives extend beyond financial results.
  • Experience in   a post-secondary environment is preferred.
Additional Information
 
This is a regular, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at EM-D with a salary range of $245,457 (minimum) to $283,517 (midpoint) to $321,577 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
