The Opportunity

As part of the Division’s management team, this role supports all workforce matters requiring adherence to Company policy, employment and human rights legislation, and the collective agreement including but not limited to the grievance/arbitration process and support in collective bargaining.

As the Manager Labour Relations, you support the Executive Director, Labour Relations with all union related issues, policy development and with the grievance processes across the fleet. You collaborate with leaders to work through Labour Relations issues, identify and prepare arguments to defend the company’s position. The role establishes, maintains, and fosters a solid working relationship with union representatives, colleagues and clients to promote a collaborative and effective labour relations climate.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Labour Relations, you add value to the team by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Acting as a partner to leaders by providing guidance in the administration and resolution of LR issues and provide advice on resolution;
  • Interpreting clauses in the collective agreement and apply them to ensure effective and informed decision-making;
  • Offering assistance to People Experience leaders on grievance handling and administration of collective agreements and all other corporate policies applicable to unionized employees;
  • Providing support and guidance on investigations resolves;
  • Participating to resolve grievances before proceeding to arbitration;
  • Preparing and holding conduct of grievances at arbitration;
  • Preparing and providing training where applicable on assorted LR matters such as collective agreement interpretation and application, discipline and effective conflict resolution;
  • Developing and align organization on an inspiring functional vision, deliver messages with impact and engage people so they provide their best work, while ensuring understanding of complex information by different audiences;

What you bring to the team

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Labour Relations, Human Resources or related field is preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 year of related experience in a large complex unionized environment supporting multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in interpreting and applying collective agreements and relevant provincial employment legislation
  • Experience in managing a grievance process, including preparation of material for arbitration
  • Experience in preparing and presenting Labour Relations positions and arguments during union and management meetings, at arbitration
  • Experience in assessing and analysing operational issues and making impactful recommendations
  • Experience with the collective bargaining process and workplace investigations

The target salary range: $102,200 - $127,700 per annum.  The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.
