About Us: The Youth Empowerment Society is a non-profit community service agency dedicated to supporting at-risk youth and their families. We work tirelessly to build a stronger, healthier community by providing prevention, intervention and crisis support services to youth across Southern Vancouver Island.

Position Summary: The Youth Services Manager is responsible for providing the necessary oversight to our staff along with the planning and coordination of program activities and various day to day operations. The Youth Services Manager will foster a collaborative, inclusive, and professional environment while delivering culturally responsive and trauma-informed support to staff.

As part of the YES management team, this position covers a broad spectrum of responsibilities including various aspects of program implementation, personnel management, staff training, community and interagency collaboration.

YES’s youth service programs focus on various critical areas, including support for youth transitioning to adulthood, crisis intervention, food security, life skills development, and youth and family support. Additional program components address basic needs, wellness workshops, substance use and mental health support, and sexual exploitation prevention, among other key areas.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Management

· Provide orientation, training, and supervision to program staff.

· Maintain and update job descriptions, oversee performance evaluations, and address personnel matters effectively.

· Foster a professional and supportive work environment grounded in ethics, diversity, and inclusion.

Program Management & Development

· Coordinate program activities to achieve strategic goals and meet community needs.

· Collaborate with the Operations Director on long-term program objectives to meet emergent community needs.

· Monitor emerging trends and challenges to adapt services effectively.

· Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

Administration & Compliance

· Ensure compliance with agency policies, funding requirements, and accreditation standards, including preparing timely reports as required.

· Manage administrative tasks, including payroll documentation, scheduling, and reporting.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

· Represent the organization at public events, community meetings, and inter-agency collaborations.

· Participate in fundraising events and initiatives to support program sustainability.

· Advocate for the needs of high-risk youth and their families within the community.

Qualifications

Education

· A bachelor's degree in social sciences, social work, child and youth care, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

· A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Experience

· Minimum 5 years’ experience in human services, including 3+ years in progressive management roles.

· Demonstrated expertise in human resource management, financial administration, and program development.

· Experience working with high-risk youth and their families.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Proficiency in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, harm reduction, and culturally responsive practices.

· Knowledge of youth services across Victoria.

· Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation related to non-profit organizations.

· Strong leadership, advocacy, and skills in youth engagement and intervention.

· Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a focus on strategic thinking and problem-solving.

Working Conditions

· The position involves working in high-stress environments with at-risk youth and responding to crisis situations.

· Criminal Record check required prior to employment.

Hours of Work:

· 37.5 hours per week scheduled.

· Salaried position coinciding with core hours Monday-Friday with occasional evening and weekend requirements.
