GENERAL STATEMENT
Under the general guidance of the Chair and faculty, but without direct supervision, prepares, distributes, and maintains departmental supplies and equipment.
TYPICAL DUTIES
• Prepares and sets up laboratory equipment and supplies as required for experiments and demonstrations;
• Assists faculty with the use of equipment;
• Assists in the selection of equipment for purchase;
• Maintains and repairs equipment;
• Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment;
• Orders, receives and stores equipment and supplies;
• Assists in the production of teaching aids;
• Assists in the production of pictures and diagrams for use in manuals;
• Maintains files of teaching aids;
• Provides guidance to student aides and student projects on an occasional basis, as required;
• Assists faculty during laboratory sessions on equivalent related issues as required;
• Assists in maintaining a safe laboratory environment;
• Maintains files and establishes procedures to satisfy WHMIS requirements;
• Transports equipment between campuses as required;
• Maintains security of the physics labs and prep room;
• Maintains records of expenditures and assists with budget management;
• Assists in the placing of orders for printing and bookstore needs;
• Tests new equipment;
• Assists in the design of new lab equipment;
• Fabricates lab equipment in consultation with faculty;
• Maintain lab computers;
• Maintain and update computer data acquisition software;
• Uses MS Word, Excel, CorelDraw, Loggerpro and other related software to design lab equipment, construct diagrams for lab manuals, track inventories and to enable student to acquire lab data;
• Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity.
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma in electronic engineering plus two years of experience in the following areas relevant laboratory experience (one year), electronic design/repair, equipment design/fabrication/repair, computer repair, and software applications or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
