Reports to the Chief Technology Officer and Operations Supervisor.

Role Overview:

This is a great opportunity at Chek Media. We are looking for a part-time Control Room Director with a great attitude and excellent communication skills that can guide our newscast in a calm and efficient manner.

Regular Hours will include Monday and Tuesday 2:30pm-10:30 pm, 16 hours per week.

  • Duties may include Technical Director/Switching, Audio, and Master Control.
  • Producing experience would be an asset.
  • Duties will include working in either Master Control, or Production Control, specifically operating the audio mixer, or the switcher during live productions.
  • Editing programs for Broadcast using Adobe Premiere editing software.
  • Ensure reliable playback of programming and commercial content and maintain a live playlist to ensure optimal playback quality.
  • Ingest, segment, and check audio and video levels on media from various formats and sources, to ensure optimal playback quality.
  • Track missing content and replace as required.
  • Transcode and spot check content for quality assurance, including secondary audio during creation and captioning.
  • Maintain daily reports, and perform other administrative tasks as required.
  • Operate various types of equipment during live news production.
  • Collaborating with anchor/producer to ensure seamless and dynamic newscasts.
  • Strong attention to detail and anticipates challenges before they arise.
  • Excellent technical skills with audio and control room equipment.
  • Solution focused and able to maintain poise under pressure.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with teammates.
  • Control/Master Control Relief shifts may be available weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Technically minded and can learn new software and hardware solutions and take initiatives independently.
  • A thorough understanding of live television equipment and technology, including audio mixers, digital playback devices, prompters, studio cameras, lighting panels, and switchers.
  • A good understanding of television, technology, and software. Including captioning, transcoding, routing, editing and quality control devices and distribution paths.
  • Practical experience in a live control room environment as well as using broadcast automation systems including server-based recording and playback devices.
  • Ability to determine and shift priorities quickly and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to carry out detailed tasks and projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently. Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude are essential.

Qualifications include:

  • Diploma, Degree, or equivalent experience in Broadcast Television program.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a news control room.
  • Proficient with computers and software packages including: Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel.
