A) JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director at the Camosun Coastal Centre, the Business Development Specialist will work as a member of the Professional Studies & Industry Training (ProSIT) unit with specific responsibility for the recruitment of students, identifying opportunities and completing market research. This individual is also required to work outside of regular hours in support of evening and weekend programming and special promotional and community activities as required.
Key objectives of this position will be to enhance the exposure of the Camosun College brand as it relates to the local industry, Indigenous communities, and the community while supporting the expansion of program offerings outside these specialty areas. Specific accountabilities of this role are to proactively seek repeat contracts and open enrollment business and maintain the website and the use of digital marketing.


B) REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Director. This a mobile role and has working space at both the ProSIT offices and the Camosun Coastal Centre.

C) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Works with the Director to develop new and effective strategies to recruit students and meet the established contribution targets of the ProSIT department.
· Conducts on-going evaluation and assessment of local industries and markets. Makes recommendations to the Director on recruitment opportunities and events.
· As assigned by the Director, focuses on a specific recruitment audience or market with targeted events and relationship-building. Align with the ProSIT strategy and act as first point of contact on behalf of the ProSit department.
· Responds to initial contact with prospects by answering initial requests and questions in a timely manner through email, phone and face to face.
· Along with the Director and ProSIT marketing and communications strategist, contributes to the annual plan for recruitment initiatives including identifying relevant training and education recruitment.
· Works with the Director to implement open enrollment and cohort recruitment strategies including advising prospective students on programs, opportunities, facility rentals and services accurately and responsibly.
· Oversees the tracking and follow-up of ProSIT prospective client leads generated through recruitment activity, in person or electronic communication and the use and management of the ProSit client management system.
· Conducts customer and stakeholder needs assessments.
· Identifies potential target markets and clients. Creates and maintains a network of partners/clients in industry, academia and the community.
· Follows-up with and qualifies leads as well as conducts initial assessment of their requirements.
· Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients and provides excellent customer service with orientation to all Camosun College programs and policies.
· Coordinates ProSIT participation role and representation at open house, on campus, at community information sessions and other local events.
· Attends networking and industry events, creates client presentations and facilitates client meetings.
· Review BC Bid and other funding sources to determine and develop proposals. Writes quotes and project proposals for potential clients.
· Reviews and understands Requests for Proposals and similar procurement documents and prepares responding proposal outline documents that meet requirements and deadlines.
· Prepares professional, competitive proposals and information packages upon receipt of RFPs, when requested.
· Conduct lessons-learned sessions with members of the proposal team for both won and lost bids.
· Conducts market research, competitor analysis and client surveys.
· Utilizes Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
Utilizes and updates social media as requested by the Manager

D) OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Act as Camosun Coastal Centre on-site contact as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
• An undergraduate degree in a related discipline.
• A minimum of 3 years of successful business development experience (preference will be given to work experience in an education setting, preferably corporate or industry-related organization).
• Valid BC Driver’s License
