CHEK has been part of the fabric of the communities it serves since 1956 and continues to provide viewers with compelling and comprehensive news coverage from across Vancouver Island seven days a week on multiple platforms.

Role Overview

We are looking for a passionate digital news editor to support our digital news team. As a digital news editor, you will support online delivery of news content and develop and grow our audience reach and improve interaction.

Key Responsibilities

● Support and collaborate with a team of journalists.

● Prioritizing digital news and strategies, while also collaborating with the broadcast news team.

● Ability to select relevant stories, reflecting the values and diversity of our market.

● Strong writing and editing skills. Ensures our content is original and relevant and meets our journalistic standards.

● Responsible for creation and editing of online content and social media.

● Work with the news team to ensure content is customized to maximize value on each platform.

● Develop and implement strategies to grow distribution on current and emerging social media.

● Analyze digital metrics.

Qualifications and Experience

● Experienced digital journalist.

● Post-secondary diploma or degree in journalism, or other relevant education and experience.

● Video editing and graphics skills are considered an asset as well as experience with social media management and content creation.

● Familiarity with platforms such as TikTok, X, Instagram, and YouTube is beneficial.

● 2 years minimum of recent, related experience.

● Knowledge of Canadian Press Style.

What we offer

● This is a full-time unionized position in Group 2 as per the Collective Agreement Salary range to commensurate with experience: $51,313 - $77,750 annually.

● Work location is primarily onsite at our Victoria head office.

● Schedule will primarily be 4 x 10-hour shifts, including evenings, some weekend work and holidays as needed.
