Intermediate Underwriter for our in-house underwriter facilities via Lloyds of London and Domestic Insurers.  This unique opportunity is perfect for a candidate who thrives in the art of underwriting, offering greater independence and creativity to tailor insurance policies that meet the specific needs of our clients.

 

LOCATION AND STATUS

  • Victoria or Burnaby, BC or Calgary, AB
  • Full-time, Permanent (35 hrs/week)
  • Hybrid, Monday to Friday
  • Salary 75K-100K

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate and analyze risk associated with existing policies to determine their insurability and appropriate premium levels
  • Understanding of underwriting principles across multiple lines of insurance
  • Ability to customize solutions to meet insureds specific needs
  • Analyze commercial wordings to ensure language accurately reflects the intended coverage and identifies potential gaps
  • Document and maintain accurate records of decisions made
  • Assist in achieving targets for through retention and organic growth
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to liaise with brokers and internal teams, explaining underwriting decisions clearly and promptly
  • Making sound, independent underwriting decisions while adhering to the company guidelines and risk appetite
  • Work effectively towards the goals of the team
  • Participate in team meetings and attend company functions and industry events
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry developments and best practices. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial underwriting insurance experience
  • Strong analytical, assessment, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to meet deadlines, as well as collaboratively within a team to achieve shared goals
  • Strong focus on achieving objectives efficiently and effectively
  • Completed or actively pursuing the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a changing environment
  • Solution-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
