Under the direction of the supervisor, this position provides assistance to students, in support of the instructor, during labs or in the field in the use of software and/or other tools/instruments commonly used in the relevant technology program.

Note: Departments (programs) supported by this job description include: civil engineering, computer science, electronics & computer engineering, and communications.

TYPICAL DUTIES
In support of the instructor, during practical classes, which may include field activities, and during open lab time:
• assists students by answering basic questions and demonstrating the use of commonly used and program-specific specialized software packages and/or equipment/tools
• demonstrates safe procedures in the lab/field as well as the safe use of hand tools, machine tools as required
• assists students during field work, eg: surveying tasks; use of various types of tools, instruments, and equipment
• assists students with problem-solving, as applicable, programming complexities and other discipline-specific lab tasks
• prepares equipment for labs; and when directed for field activities
• performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity.
