Finance Manager

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager to be a part of our team. The Finance Manager delivers day to day accounting functions while being an integral part of the management team.

CHEK Media is 80+ employee owners strong, based primarily on Vancouver Island.

As a Finance Manager you will be working with a business base of 15-18 million of revenue, from traditional broadcast, digital advertising, industry funding, transmitter and rental income.

Direct Reports: Part time Accounting Admin Assistant
Indirect Reports: Sales Coordinator/Local Accounts Receivable

Key Responsibilities:

1. Accounting Operations: approx. 60-70%

· Full-Cycle Accounting- Manage all aspects of accounting, from general ledger entries and bank reconciliations to handling accounts payable/receivable and preparing financial statements.

· Perform, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet account reconciliations.

· Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.

· Perform AR support functions, including researching customer payment variances, investigating discrepancies, and assisting with collections-related questions as needed.

· Collaborate with the Sales Coordinator and Accounting Admin assistant to ensure accounts are receivable and month end tasks are completed.

· Lead the preparation and execution of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring all subledgers are closed accurately each period.

· Support the acquisition of capital assets and ensure proper recording, amortization, and disposal.

· Assist HR manager with activities such as shares buy ins, repurchases, dividends, bonuses, and be an emergency back up to payroll.

2. Leadership and Collaboration: approx. 10-15%

· A great team player, that demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills along with technical skills.

· Collaborate with department managers on budgeting, workforce planning, and financial analysis.

· Provide mentorship and delegation to the Accounting Admin Assistant as needed.

· You take the initiative to lead financial tasks, anticipate the managers and business’ financial needs and provide strategic advice and solutions.

3. Financial Reporting and Compliance: approx. 10-20%

· Produce accurate financial reports, including monthly income and expense statements.

· Coordinate with external auditors in the preparation of annual financial statements.

· Ensure on-time delivery of all regulatory and corporate filings, including, GST, PST, Corporate income tax, NR-4, WCB, and Statistics Canada surveys.

· Facilitate several yearly reporting requirements for, CRTC (Canada’s regulatory authority for broadcasting and telecommunications.)

· Assist managers with the submission of Journalism funding applications.

4. Budget Management and Financial Analysis: approx. 10-20%

· Oversee budget preparation, management, and monitoring processes.

· Perform financial analysis and assist in the development of key financial strategies.

· Manage cash flow and liquidity to meet operational needs and financial obligations.

Qualifications

  • University diploma, degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Accounting, Finance, Business. CPA designation would be an asset.
  • 5+ Years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3 + Years of accounting leadership experience.
  • Experienced using QuickBooks and intermediate skill in excel are preferred.
